A night beneath the Northern Lights: Mobile 'Aurora Bubble' hotel to open in December

Travellers in search of the Northern Lights will soon be able to watch the majestic natural display from their beds in a glass-roofed mobile hotel room, towed by a snowmobile.

The Aurora Bubble Sled is the creation of adventure holiday company Off the Map Travel, and will open this December in Kilpisjärvi, Finland – one of the best spots in the world from which to observe the Northern Lights.

The bubble features a thermostat-controlled heating system which keeps it warm and is filled with bean bags, reindeer skins and a sleeping kit.

The sled is mounted on the back of a snowmobile and towed deep into the Arctic wilderness, with guests then left to soak up the Arctic night sky in isolation.

A one night stay in the Bubble Sled can be organised as part of a four-day, three-night tour organised by Off the Map Travel. The itinerary also includes an an expert talk about the Northern Lights, a guide to find the best spot to observe the Aurora Borealis and use of an outdoor hot tub and sauna.

“This new experience has been created to for those wanting to experience the Northern Lights in a quirky, interesting and comfortable way,” said Jonny Cooper, owner of Off the Map Travel.
